We have made the difficult decision to indefinitely postpone the inaugural Fitfest event due to be held on the 23rd and 24th April. This will be the fourth time in two years that we have been forced to postpone our expos.

With the current restrictions and density limits with indoor and outdoor events it would be at a detriment to the integrity of the overall event and a disservice to exhibitors that cannot be guaranteed satisfactory return on investment with anything less than 100% capacity. It would also be a disappointment to the tens of thousands of fans and supporters that have come to know and expect the excitement of a packed expo.

After continued consultation with government officials and the team at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre, we cannot be guaranteed satisfactory density limits.

When we had to postpone our event from November 2021 to April 2022, we had not even heard of the omicron variant. We have seen outdoor events like the Ashes test at the MCG and the Australian Open tennis with only 50% attendance permitted. We have seen outdoor events like iconic ocean swimming classics, country music festivals and even cycling races cancelled. Therefore any hope of having full capacity at an indoor event has become impossible.

Alternative postponement show dates were fully considered, however with such a large-scale event, the challenge to reschedule and find a time that was to be free of restrictions has become unworkable.

The good news is that our ‘Season A’ bodybuilding events and pro-qualifier will go ahead as planned at a venue to be announced shortly. Our Australia’s strongest strongman and strongwoman events will proceed independently. It is with great regret that I have made this decision and on behalf of the whole Fitfest team we apologise for any inconvenience that this may have caused. We have worked relentlessly to do the impossible given the ongoing effects of the global pandemic here in Australia. We have no other choice than this indefinite postponement.

Thank you to everyone, our sponsors, exhibitors, fans and friends for your continued support and understanding.

Tony Doherty and the Fitfest Team.
